PhaseOut is a sleep and digital wellness app by BrightDev. This policy explains exactly what data PhaseOut accesses, why it accesses it, and what it never does.
The short version: PhaseOut does not collect, upload, or sell your personal data. Everything stays on your device. The only data that ever leaves is anonymous crash reports sent to Firebase Crashlytics — and you can disable those in Settings.
PhaseOut reads the following data locally on your device to power its features. None of it is transmitted to any server except where noted in section 4.
| Data type | Why it's needed | Leaves device? |
|---|---|---|
| App usage statistics | Display your daily screen time; enforce app limits you set | Never |
| Battery level & state | Predict charge time; send an evening plug-in reminder | Never |
| Active media sessions | Stop audio playback from any app at your scheduled bedtime | Never |
| Screen brightness | Dim screen at bedtime; restore it each morning | Never |
| Do Not Disturb status | Enable DND at bedtime; restore your previous setting in the morning | Never |
| Crash diagnostics | Anonymous error reports to help us fix bugs (see section 4) | Anonymous only |
Data accessed by PhaseOut is used exclusively to provide the app's features. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
All user-generated data is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. This includes:
PhaseOut uses one third-party service: Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC). Crashlytics receives an anonymous crash report when the app encounters an unhandled error. Each report contains:
Crash reports do not contain your schedules, usage data, focus history, battery data, or any personally identifying information such as your name, email, or advertising ID.
Firebase Crashlytics is operated by Google LLC and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. PhaseOut has no other network connections during normal operation.
PhaseOut requests permissions contextually — only when you first use the feature that needs them. No permissions are requested on first launch.
No sensitive permissions — camera, microphone, contacts, location, SMS, call logs, or external storage — are requested or used.
Because all data is stored locally, you are in full control:
Because PhaseOut stores no personal data on any server, most data-subject rights apply to your local device — where you already have full control. Specific controls:

PhaseOut is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since PhaseOut requires no account and transmits no personal data, there is no mechanism by which we could collect a child's personal information.

If we make material changes — for example, if a future version of PhaseOut begins collecting additional data or integrating a new third-party service — we will:
Continued use of PhaseOut after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
